    Window tinting for homes

Home window tinting in Sydney, one problem room at a time

Most people call us about one room. The west-facing lounge that’s unbearable by 3pm. The bedroom that never cools down. The TV you can’t see for glare, or the front window that leaves you on show. Home window tinting fixes those problems at the glass, without new windows or closed blinds.

Steve checks each window first: which way it faces, what glass is in it and what you want it to stop. You get a film matched to that glass, fitted by Steve himself. That’s how we’ve worked since 2008.

We tint houses, apartments, townhouses and granny flats, from one bathroom window to a whole new build.

    What window tint fixes

What window tinting fixes in a Sydney home

Film works on the glass you already have. These are the four problems it fixes most often.

    01

    Heat reducing window tint

Solar control and ceramic tints reject much of the sun’s heat, so west and north-facing rooms stay usable in summer. How much heat does tint stop? Or see how much cooler it feels.

    02

    Glare reduction window tint

Takes the glare off TVs, screens and benches without turning the room into a cave. Glare and heat, explained.

    03

    UV protection window tint

Blocks up to 99% of UV rays, the biggest cause of faded floors and furniture, so fading slows right down. See UV window film and home tint and UV.

    04

    Privacy window tint

One-way film works by day, frosted film day and night. Compare them in our privacy window film guide.

    Window tint options

Choosing window film room by room

There’s no single best tint for a house. It depends on the problem, the room and the glass. These are the options we fit most often.

    FilmBest forWhat to know
Ceramic & spectrally selectiveHeat with a clear lookCuts heat with little change to the view. The premium option. See ceramic film.
Low-reflectionDay comfort, night viewNo mirror effect inside at night. Read about low-reflection film.
Reflective solar window tintMaximum heat rejectionThe strongest heat control. Mirrored outside by day. See reflective film.
One-way privacy filmDaytime privacyReverses at night once the lights are on.
Frosted & decorative filmPrivacy day and nightLooks like etched or frosted glass and still lets light in. See window frosting.
Safety & security filmGlass doors, kids, break-insSecurity window tint holds broken glass together. See glass safety film.
Clear UV filmFading onlyClose to invisible.

Reading a spec sheet. Every window tinting film has one. Check visible light transmission (VLT) for daylight, total solar energy rejected (TSER) for heat, and UV rejection. More in the best window film for reducing heat in Sydney homes.

    Glass first

The right house window tint depends on your glass

Before quoting, we check the glass. Float, toughened, laminated, double-glazed and Low-E glass all handle heat differently. The wrong dark or reflective film on a big pane of float glass, or on some double-glazed units, can cause thermal stress cracking.

So every film we fit is approved by its manufacturer for your glass. More on whether tint can go on every type of home window and the installation risks worth knowing.

    • Pane size and shadeBig or part-shaded panes heat unevenly.
    • Which way it facesWest and north glass usually needs a stronger film.
    • Frames and old filmTimber or aluminium, and any old tint that has to come off.

    Brands

Window film brands we install on Sydney homes

We’re independent, so we choose the film for your glass, not for a supplier. We fit six brands, led by UltraGard. Each maker publishes its own test data (LLumar, Solar Gard, SunTek, 3M), and we’re happy to talk you through it.

    How it works

How a house tinting job works

    1. Photos or a visitSend photos for a first look. For most houses we then visit to check the glass.
    2. Film recommendationYou see samples on your own windows and get a straight answer on what each film will do.
    3. Written quoteOne price for the windows you choose, including any old film removal.
    4. InstallationGlass cleaned, film cut to each pane, edges trimmed neatly. We leave the house tidy.
    5. Curing and careFilm can look hazy for a few days to a few weeks while it dries. Don’t wash the windows for a month. Care guide.
    House window tinting cost

    What changes the price

We don’t publish a price list for house window tinting, because no two houses are the same. These things decide the cost:

    • Number and size of panesA few bathroom windows and a house full of sliding doors are different jobs.
    • The film you chooseClear ceramic and safety films cost more than standard solar film.
    • Your glassDouble glazing, Low-E and large panes limit which films suit.
    • AccessHigh windows, skylights and upper floors take longer.
    • Old tint removalPeeling or purple film has to come off first. See tint removal.

    FAQ

Frequently asked questions about home window tint

Will home window tinting make my house too dark?

Not if the film is chosen properly. Clear ceramic films cut heat and let most of the daylight through, and you see samples on your windows first. More in does heat reduction tint make a house too dark.

Can people see through tinted windows at night?

With one-way film, yes. Once your lights are on it reverses. Frosted film gives privacy after dark, and low-reflection film keeps your night view.

How long does house window tint last?

Many years when it’s fitted inside, and our residential films carry a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. More on how long home window tint lasts.

Will tinting my windows lower my energy bills?

It can, because the air conditioner works less in summer. Savings depend on the house and the glass, so we won’t promise a figure. See does window tinting reduce energy bills.

Is home window tinting worth the investment?

If a room is too hot, too bright or too exposed to use, usually yes. Film costs far less than new glass. If blinds would do the job better, we’ll say so.

What are the best window tints for a house?

There’s no one best brand for every house. We pick from six brands to suit your glass. Compare them on our window films page.

Can I tint my house windows myself?

You can, but bubbles, lifting edges and the wrong film on the wrong glass are common. A trained window tint installer knows what each glass can take. See DIY vs professional window tinting.
